Sounio (Cape or columns or Kavokolones) called the cape located at the southernmost extremity of Attica. The coast is rocky and steep. Rises almost vertically from the sea to a great height forming the foothills to the west of this small cove with isthmus separated from other eastern coves. Sounio is known because of its important geographical position and because of the ruins of the ancient temple of Poseidon are there. In recent years, the area because of environmental value was declared a national park.
